I was looking for a smaller, reasonable safe to hold just a shotgun, rifle, and accessories at a river house in the mountains of West Virginia. I didnt need anything too large, or too super heavy duty, and it was important to have multiple ways to access the safe.
This was perfect for me. With the box weighing in around 90 pounds, I could handle it myself if needed and it was easy to get in place in the chosen location. It came with heavy duty bolts and pre/drilled holes to secure it against the wall. The included bolts, as best I can tell, require access to the other side of the wall for mounting. I actually dont have that access, so instead of the included bolts I subbed in some heavy duty screws and anchors I had lying around without any problem. Its deep enough and tall enough to fit perfectly in place in a closet, while able to hold the long guns, one with a scope.
The fingerprint reader was a little hinky in getting my prints initially established. I was unable to scan the same finger more than once to account for different angles. But the good trade/off was the ability to store up to 100 different prints, which I used liberally. The reader definitely recognizes and responds to prints fast.
The buttons to set a code are a bit tight together, but theyre responsive. The ability to set up to a 9 digit code is useful for extra security, especially with only 3 numerals that can be included. (With up to 9 digits, this still allows up to 19,683 possible codes, so its not insecure by any means.)
It definitely seems sturdy and thick enough for most use cases, though of course it isnt going to be THE BEST EVER. If you have a collection of tens of thousands of dollars worth of long guns, maybe this wont give you the full piece of mind youd want. (But if you had that collection, you could probably afford top/top/top of the line in cabinet too.)
All in all, a great product for what I needed. Very cute.
