    Beautiful bunk bed

Just received the WE bunk bed (espresso) and put it together. First impression: its beautiful. Its a smart looking piece of furniture. Very good space above and below. Its a bargain at its price when you compare to other bunk beds. The one watch-out is assembly. It can require more effort than you realize. Dimensions: We have 8 foot ceilings. This bunk bed fits the bedroom easily. It also replaces our previous twin bed frame, and occupies the same footprint in the room. Quality and finish: We also looked at Land of Nod. Theres a beautiful bunk bed there...that costs $1,200 more than this one! The look and quality of this bed is terrific. Its quite sturdy. And its price is amazing. Shipping: We have Prime, which should have meant 2-day shipping. It was scheduled to arrive on a Thursday, but actually arrived on Friday. Not a big deal, but FYI. Arrived in one big, long box. The box is very heavy. I actually helped the FedEx worker to bring it into my house. Assembly: Im not a frequent handyman, but can learn directions with enough patience. My father-in-law is more handy. Together, we put it together. Total time: 4.5 hours. Yes, it took a while. The directions are good, spelled out in 12 steps. As an irregular handyman, I would have struggled with the barrel nuts in Steps 5 and 7, but my father-in-law figured those out (need to hold them in place with a screwdriver). The directions do indicate that you need a Philips head screwdriver. But if you have a drill, that helps. It made screwing the mattress support slats (Steps 6 and 8) much easier. What added time to the assembly at the end was the ladder. Its the final piece (Step 12). Two issues extended the time it took. First, the holes in the ladder, where its to be attached to the bed, are too small for the screws. So we opened them up with a drill bit. Then there were the holes in the bunk bed frame where the screws go through to attach to the ladder. They were blocked by some of the mattress support slats (Steps 6 and 8). So we unscrewed the offending slats, attached the ladder, then reattached the slats. It did take some effort, but we did it. Its a great reward to see the bunk bed up, kids are thrilled with it. We now have opened up a lot of space in their bedroom, which will be filled with desks. Recommended. 4 stars due to the assembly being a bit more challenging. But very positive about this piece of furniture.
