Received in a large, well/packaged box. The chair was in a total of 4 pieces / the base unit, the back and the 2 wings. Each was easily assembled and attached to each other. I would recommend having an extra hand to guide the back into place on the mounting racks, it just makes it a lot easier.
As far as comfort, its perfect! It opens and reclines easily and at the perfect angle for reading or watching TV. My wife is 53 and her feet are in the middle of the footpad while Im 63 and my feet just hang off but very comfortable.
