I think some of it could have come preassembled, but the manufacturer wanted to use a small box to ship. Bit of a hassle getting the rods together for the base. A lot of screws involved, which were silver could of used a white coating to blend in with the rest of the frame. Not sure how sturdy it is as claimed in the description. Its just an ok frame But other than that its nice
