The reviews are correct about the directions not being very detailed. Having a bit of ingenuity and some extra hands does help, though. Assembly was not terribly difficult.
It does not seem to be as sturdy as I had hoped for. I dont think that I want any larger kids climbing around on it. Once its assembled, its not easily moved. This was on carpet. Im sure a bare floor would allow it to slide easier. The drawers are not impressive. The bigger the drawer, the wobblier its is. The bigger drawers should have had two guides on them. We used 8 inch foam mattresses on all three levels. It works well on the trundle, but I dont think it will store with blankets on it. We just make that one when needed.
The real frustrating part was the delivery. It did arrive a couple of days sooner than expected. Which was good. However, when Fed Ex delivered it, it arrived with one box broken open. The driver mentioned that there seemed to be a surge in these heavy bunk bed orders, in the recent past. Which makes you wonder if there was a little frustration on their part that played into the damage. But, thats just my thought. Things appeared to be in good shape. But, by the time I got to the end, I had two pieces left and missing one. As it turned out, those two extra pieces were actually one piece. The piece that I needed. As you can see in the picture, I was able to complete the assembly and the bed is functional. The damage is visible. I just wonder about the integrity and safety of the bed, with that defect. Again, I dont think I want any large kids climbing around on it.
So far so good, though. It doesnt get used often.
In hindsight, I would look elsewhere. Big Lots has a bunk bed that is priced well and feels very sturdy. I would have had to add a trundle but, it still may have cost less. Overall you got what you paid for.
Maybe I should have gone with Big Lots
