I am currently giving this bed a five star review despite minor problems with assembly.
SHIPPING:
Very heavy box. Shake the box after pulling out all of the long parts to ensure you get all of the small boxes containing the little pieces needed for assembly.
STRENGTH:
The description says the daybed a holds up to 400 pounds. It feels strong and secure to me, though it has only been holding my 129 pounds and my cats 13 pounds supportively and comfortably for about 28 hours now. I may revise my review depending on how it holds up over time under more strain.
APPEARANCE:
It has an attractive design that fits in well with contemporary and antique style rooms. This daybed provides very spacious seating once you put a mattress on it while taking up less space than some other s for twin mattresses. I like the dull dark brown color because it matches some wooden furniture finishes; I would not have liked it as much if it were shiny.
DAYBED ASSEMBLY:
The instructions were clear and no pieces were missing. This bed would have been easier to assemble with two people. As a young woman living alone, I managed to do it myself in 3 hours. The most difficult part to do on my own was the long backrest piece labeled I. I needed to put the right half of the backrest on a chair while I screwed the left side into the support post on the left. Once I did that, the backrest hung in midair and it was simpler to screw the right side of the backrest into the right post.
The only flaw with assembly seems to be with the rungs sliding into the slots of the (see photos). Most of them fit into slots on both sides of the and the plastic pieces secure them to ensure they do not move. Unfortunately, one rung on the left and two on the right dont lock into place on both sides (just one side), and the plastic pieces wont fit into those irregular spaces. I scratched up the trying to make them fit (see photos). The scratches are not a huge problem since that part of the bed remains covered. The bed still supports me lying on it and doesnt move in spite of this flaw, thus I am not removing a star for it at this time.
I have not assembled the that comes with the daybed, so I cannot speak to its effectiveness. Instead, I got a pop/up from a friend and it fits under this daybed perfectly (see photos) and pops up to the exact same height because they are both standard sizes. Others should be able to get a pop/up from another source to fit underneath this daybed if desired.
So far, I am happy and recommend this bed.
