3.5 Stars / Pretty and Classic from the front

For starters, the color is a bit different than I had anticipated. I was expecting a sort of dark slate gray, but we got a lighter bluish/gray that doesnt really match any of our other furniture, so just be aware of that if you were looking for either a dark gray or a neutral or warm gray, because this definitely has a blue undertone to it. Coming from a couch to a futon, this is certainly not as soft and fluffy as our previous couch, but it is comfortable if you like a firm mattress, which I really do. I actually prefer this to our old sleeper couch, and its much more sleek and less heavy. Assembly is easy and it definitely ends up looking much more expensive than it actually is. My only real complaint is that the back side is not as attractive as the rest of it, so if you didnt have plans to put this up against a wall, then youve got to look at that back side (see photos) and if you do have plans to put it up against a wall, then because the way this moves from a couch to a futon, youve got to pull the whole piece away from the wall far enough for the back to come down and then assemble the legs down while scrunched up against a wall. There looks like there is a big gaping hole on the back and the illusion of this being a couch instead of a futon is pretty much gone. We tried to put a set of ottomans behind the couch to see if it would hide the less attractive back side, but the back is quite tall, so it didnt look right. If you have maybe a tall console and some plants to go behind it and conceal the functional part of the futon, it might be better. This could have been remedied with a faux back flap of matching fabric that would tuck around the bottom and be secured via zip or hook and loop, and come undone when it needs to be converted to a bed. Weve had other sleeper furniture that featured something like that, so Im surprised to not see it here and just have the back look like this in an otherwise and authentic looking vintage inspired futon. That said, I do love that my kids dont have cushions to pull out and jump on, and the memory foam is so firm that theyre not even inclined to attempt to jump on it. Im 59 and I can stretch out to have the full length of my body on here so it is quite roomy and our whole family can sit on it together easily with plenty of room. The fabric is soft and luxurious and with a few improvements to hide the backside, this would be a top notch furniture option.
