IT does have the plastic/foam smell when you first open let it sit overnight in a garage if you need it to air out first. but it was easy to put together the hole are all pre drllied and the holes where you screw in the cam shaft have an insert in them to keep the wood from getting torn up and it makes them easier to screw in. It did come with an allen wrench (that you dont use) you will need a Phillips head screwdriver to put together. *the drawers are on melal rails pre attached to the parts)
