Once I received the item it was great!
I've never ordered a large product like this and it was an ordeal to get it delivered from UPS. Never had any problems with UPS when small packages were delivered. I moved to a new apartment that does not sign for deliveries but am not certain if they would have signed for something this large and heavy even if they offered that service.
FRIDAY:
The original delivery was for Friday. This was delayed till Tuesday (Monday was a holiday)...this really wasn't a big deal.
TUESDAY:
After I got home from work on Tuesday I had a UPS Missed Delivery notice on my door. They have options listed (A-D) but none of them were selected. So I signed the back and left it on my door the following day. The notice indicated it would be delivered the following day.
WEDNESDAY:
After I got home from work on Wednesday I had another UPS Missed Delivery notice on my door. The one I signed and placed on the door the previous day was still there. This new notice also did not have any of the options (A-D) selected. The notice indicated it would be delivered the following day
THURSDAY:
Figuring I had to be present for the delivery I decided to work from home that day (it is an option for me). Around noon the UPS status page was updated indicating that the package was left at the facility and the delivery would be delayed or rescheduled. I contacted UPS asking if they could give me any notice when it would be delivered; morning, late afternoon...anything. They could not. They also indicated that it was the driver discretion whether they would leave the package in a public area.
FRIDAY:
I worked from home again since the status page indicated it would be delivered that day. It was not. No updates, it just never showed up.
MONDAY:
I worked from home Monday...not willing to give in. It finally showed up! Funny thing, they just left the package, they didn't even knock.
The package is huge (it's a queen size frame) and is fairly heavy (just over 100 lbs or so). My package looked like it fell off the back of the truck and was mauled by animals. The corners where ripped partially open, punctures all over the place. I took pictures initially because I was certain it would come out as confetti.
There are two cardboard packages for this; which helped. I did notice a small indentation in the headboard leather; this was the result of a puncture through the two boxes. This was low on the headboard that was ultimately concealed by the mattress and I didn't want to go through the delivery process again so I just kept it (glad I did).
The product packaging is truly remarkable (somebody deserves an award), everything was neatly packaged in the headboard. I unpacked everything and put it together within a hour or so (leisurely pace). Only an Alan key was needed (which was provided). The instructions were picture based and it seemed to make sense. The only thing I would note is that if you've never put anything like this together its a good idea to wait till the end to tighten all the screws (I think there was an attempt to indicate this in the instructions) as you need a little wiggle room when assembling.
I was initially concerned about the slats (my first platform bed) because they seemed flimsy, but after I installed them all I realized that they are flexible and no individual slat is engaged at once (since you have a large mattress across them all).
Overall I'm very happy with it. It has the appearance of a much more expensive frame.
