This is a good solid bunk bed with just a couple flaws:
1. The railing for the steps feels quite flimsy. We have to tell our son not to lean on that railing out of fear that it will snap and hell go flying.
2. Likewise, the top rail (the long rail that keeps someone from falling off the top bunk) feels a bit flimsy. Were not worried about that one. It seems safe, but there should probably be two additional vertical supports to keep the long rail from feeling so flimsy.
3. There were one or two cases where I had to create pilot holes and insert screws in a location other than the one specified in the directions. This didnt affect the look or function of the bunk bed, but its annoying to come across that type of error.
As far as assembly goes, assume that you might have to spend 6-8 hours on this if youre doing it yourself (and youll probably need someone to help you hoist the top bunk). The packaging and instructions are fantastic and the assembly is quite easy (in my opinion), but there is SO MUCH to assemble that it just takes a long time. There are literally hundreds of things to screw, attach, tighten, etc. I started building this in the afternoon thinking people say it took them three hours, this will be quick. Then it was 11pm and our kids were still up because I was still finishing it. If someone posts a video of themselves putting this together without any help (other than someone to help them lift the top bed) in three hours, I will send you many Schrute Bucks.
P.S. One key piece was broken right out of the box. I sent an email to the company and they shipped a replacement piece for free very quickly. Im not going to let that alter my 4-star rating, but its something you should know about.
Great bunk bed for the price
