This small ,but sturdy, gun safe was just what I was looking for. Small enough to fit in a small closet but big enough to fit 5 medium sized guns with shelf at top position. The shelf was about an inch shy of being tall enough to fit an old shotgun. I raised the shelf by adding a couple of inch thick strips of wood under the shelf for more clearance. For long barrel shot guns you will have to remove the shelf. My Remington 870 came with a 20slug barrel and a 28 bird barrel. I just put on the short barrel and stowed the long barrel against the back corner of the safe. My deer rifle ( with scope) fit just fine.
I opted for an aftermarket light kit. There are several good options on . It makes it much easier to see your safe contents.
Fingerprint and passcode setup was quick and simple. The fingerprint reader works most of the time. I registered two fingers and thumb on both hands. If the reader fails I just try a different finger. But in most cases, it works first try.
Locking the door is simple. Just be sure its closed all the way before you turn the locking handle. Also, be sure the locking pins are in the open position before attempting to close the door.
The inside locking compartment is small but its adequate to hold some paperwork. Another shelf would have been better.
It comes with a lock out key (2). Also a separate battery pack if your safe lock batteries die. Just install 4 AA batteries in the pack and insert the wire plug into battery port below keypad and enter passcode or fingerprint. According to the user manual, your fingerprints and passcode will remain in the memory even if the batteries die.
Shipping was much quicker than I expected. FedEx actually delivered it on Sunday after Christmas. Packaging was excellent. Lots of foam in the box. It arrived in pristine condition.
Overall, I am very satisfied with this gun safe. ITS NOT A FIRE SAFE. And if someone wants in it badly enough, they will get in it. But its going to take some time. Its solid enough to keep out nosey people and kids. Basically, its built to keep out honest people. Like doors and windows on a house.
Just what I needed. As advertised.
