    Disappointing

These look good from a distance but, close up, the wood on the tops is cheap-looking. Scruffy, Mrs G called them. Theyre disappointing, compared with the pictures in the listing. One of them has lots of little scratches and they both have slightly open joints between the slats – see photos. The colour isnt as golden as the pictures suggest either. It looked as though they would be similar to the light-oak in our kitchen but they arent. They are of course fairly hard and provide little long-term comfort. Theyre fine for short periods with breakfast or lunch, say, but not for sitting using a laptop, as I often do at our breakfast bar. The absence of backs doesnt help. Our old stools have padding under the leather covers and low backs to sit back against from time to time. They were a lot cheaper too. If they cost quite a lot less than the current 120, Id perhaps rate them four stars, despite the faults with the tops, since theyll soon pick up marks in use and the original faults will be forgotten. £120 for two is too much, however. Id expect beautiful tops in oak or beech or similar for that money.
