We got this bed for our 2 1/2 year old son. I was worried about it being toddler friendly but it is. My husband put it together and I believe it took him 1/2 hours one morning to put it together. It is very sturdy. Its not too high except for the fact that the mattress we got is a little thick. However, we chose not to put a gate up and our Son sleeps fine without it. Hes still small that he has lots of room to move and doesnt get close to the edge. The color and style are perfect for boy or girls room and it has two different color knobs so you can choose the white or the light brown color. very pleasantly surprised
