We really liked the look and comfort of our 88.5 Napa sofa that we purchased directly from PB. However, it off-gassed strong chemical and musty odors during the entire three weeks we had it. The off-gassing caused burning in my wifes and my eyes and back of throats. I am an occasional migraine suffer - usually about four per year, but I had 9 migraines during the 21 days we had the sofa, starting with the second day that it was in our house. We moved the sofa out of our house for good a few days ago, and I have not had any migraines.
Much of the time, we had the components airing outside, but to no avail. The back cushions and bolsters had a slight leather smell, which was just fine. But the bottom yellow foam layer in the seat cushion smelled like oil and a similar odor mixed with a musty smell came from inside the right side of the sofa.
Customer service has been great regarding returning the item. It gets picked up tomorrow, and I trust we will receive a timely refund. I am amazed that in the hundreds of reviews I read on PBs website, , Yelp and Facebook, no one else had the odor issue. Same with competitors that sell nearly identical Vietnamese sofas for higher prices like Article. I think we just got unlucky with one this one. PBs policy allows for only one totally free return of a similar product (i.e. sofa), so we will not take a chance with getting a replacement.
This entire gas-off issue has us very concerned about buying another foreign made piece of furniture from not only PB but any of its competitors. Maybe we will just have to pay the big bucks for a sofa made in USA or Canada. The only one of the same style as the Napa that I found is more than twice the price, so we will likely get a different style.
