you do need a box spring if you like to have your bed up higher.
no box spring your bed will almost lay flat with the foot board.
also, i definitely recommend buying more support boards to hold up the mattress or box spring.
the bed comes with only 3 small support boards.
some people recommended me to buy one large piece of wood to cover the whole bottom. even if you do. I still recommend buying more support boards to hold the large piece of wood.

Overall its good. The headboard is 2 pcs which makes it not so sturdy. If i knew it was 2 pcs Id probably look for alternatives but I dont regret buying it. It looks good and better than ikea furniture. Very sturdy.
I looked at this bed for months before I finally bought it, and i have no regrets. It took about an hour to put together with the instructions but when it was finally done it sure is beautiful! Solid bed. It doesnt squeak or shake when youre moving. Ive had it about a year now, and its still quiet and sturdy. So happy with my purchase. this is good!
You get what you pay for.had to get it delivered twice and both times it was damaged. Had trouble getting the first delivery picked up. In between deliveries a second delivery for the first bed was delivered. It was a mess trying to get help. Did not want to deal with having a third bed delivered so I made the second bed work. Good for its value.
The bed arrived and having the headboard in two pieces does not make it stable. I had to re/support it with my own 2 x 4s because correct me if I am wrong headboards are made so people can sit up in bed to like read, etc. Well out of the box this was going to break if I didnt support it. Also, the bed rail supports legs are cheaply made. One of them broke the first night we slept on it and we werent moving. I would not pay this kind of money for something this cheaply made. Maybe 300 not anywhere near 500.

Its actually a hair large for a mattress. You have to pick if you want the 2/3 inch gap at the headboard or the footboard. Takes up less space.
