I honestly wasnt expecting it to be so nice. This was going to be a stand in since the one we wanted wasnt going to be available for a while and now we arent even buying the other one. Very impressed. I never give reviews but this one deserved one. She loves her first bed! Thank you!
For the price, the sturdiness and quality was surprising. It is solid pine wood for all pieces- even my husband was pleasantly surprised. The paint is a bright white, not a white wash like it says however and the chalk board is not really. chalkboard, but a black piece of wood.
It great a little long to put together may need to people. I would be mindful of the mattress u get because if it is to thick it will sit really high up like mines and may be a hazard for small kids
My 3 year old loved it. He spends more time in his room, he says that he is going to play in his slide. Its very sturdy. It took two people two hours to build it. Its an off white color. I used a 10 inch mattress and there is still plenty barrier so he wont fall off bed.
My wife and I were looking for a loft bed to make some more play space in my 3.5yr old sons bedroom. Its a fairly small room and we wanted more room for him to spread out his toys and things on the floor. He loves the new bed and spends quite a bit of time up on the bed part with his books as he does down below playing. We didnt think of how much he would like spending time in the bed part.
Assembly was fairly straight forward and the instructions are complete. The worst part of assembly is putting together the long side of the upper rails. Since there arent separate fasteners, they have to be slid in at the same time as the end panels go on. Definitely requires two people.
When assembled as delivered, the bed is fairly sturdy. Its not too tall, so it would probably be livable. I decided to make a couple of improvements for its long-term use and peace of mind. The first was that I added 6 more slats to the part that supports the mattress. We are using a 5 thick foam mattress from and it just seemed too soft in places. With three 1x3s eight feet long, I cut six more slats at 39 and screwed them down just like the others. The next improvement was to use some self-tapping sheet metal screws to join the slats to the steel beam down the center. This made a huge difference in the rigidity of the bed. Finally, I added two anti-tip furniture straps to tie it to the wall.
Overall, I would say that this was a winner. I was hesitant to buy something instead of building it myself, but I think that in this case it was a success. With a couple of inexpensive improvements it became exactly what we needed.
The design looks great and although not perfect I think it looks wonderful in my kids room. The assembly was straight forward but does take some time. Having the right tools will save a whole lot of time, as is with all furniture.
A few things to note:
1. There is a terrible paint smell. Some other reviews call it pine, but no this is paint smell. (Its the same kind of smell after I use spray paint.) The smell lingers for a while too so be prepared to air out multiple days. In other words you do not want to use this right away for your kid after you build it. Your kid will want to climb on it so if they do then at least make sure you have a window opened. It may be best to open the box and air out the materials for a few days before assembly.
2. The description does say the color is white washed. Look closely at the attached pictures, the paint layer is translucent when you look closer. They arent lying when saying its white washed but it really would have been better if they painted it full white with proper layers of paint and seal. I suspect the white washing process might just be the reason for the bad paint smell.
3. The chalkboard is not a chalkboard. It works with crayons but not with chalk. The board is glossy and chalk will not stay. Using crayons is fine but just know it doesnt erase as easily, you will have to wipe it clean using a solvent or cleaner to start fresh on the board. This is fine for us but just dont have the wrong expectations since the pictures can be misleading.
The product isnt perfect, but kids beds are expensive comparatively speaking. This is lower cost than equivalent beds but just make sure your expectations are aligned with the points I outlined above.
My 3 year old loves it! Was able to put together with my wife fairly easy. Would recommend have a set of T-handle Allen wrenches and a drill for screws to speed things up.

Be careful not to break off the wooden pegs when putting sides together.

A good start for a small bedroom

Good for the Price - Good Design, But Paint Smell and Not a Chalkboard
