Lets just say, you get what you pay for. As an adirondack chair usually runs close to 200 each, what can you expect for something that cost 50. Putting it together took some time, but all in all it was fine with a drill. It took me about an hour to put one together (i was using a screwdriver to start), it took my boyfriend 3 seconds to sit on it and break it. The wood has a lot of knots, weak spots, we moved the plank to the front and hoped for the best. I havent put the second chair together yet. I am trying to see if I can get replacement boards to replace the broken one, and as back up. If they allow that, ill keep them, mostly because I have no desire to take it apart. They are definitely small but are the perfect size for a balcony in a condo or apt.
Update: I contacted the manufacturer to get a replacement board. They did more than expected, after sending them some photos of the cracked board, they sent me two brand new chairs. No need to return my originals. So I still have the originals set up and use them daily, the cracked board is still holding up (for now), and I have two more as back up. I have zero complaints about these chairs. They look great and I love my little wine drinking space.
I received two Adirondack folding chairs today. I assembled both by myself in 20 minutes, so easy. I only needed pliers to hold the nut as I tightened the screw. Some noted that two need to hold the chair to align the screw and peg holes. I found that placing the chair on its side solved that issue. I aligned the positioning and installed the peg and screw on one side, turned it over, and did the same on the other side. The chair is sturdy and very comfortable. I am 57 with lower lumbar issues. No issues with this chair. I am going to get years of relaxation from this purchase.
I tried all 3 synthetic material Adirondack style chairs I saw on the Highwood, the , and the Trex. They were all good to very good, and similarly priced from. Specific pros cons: Highwood has 3 different back recline settings, and the most comfortable armrests. It was slightly less expensive than the others, but required more work to assemble, taking 25 minutes vs. the others taking 5 minutes tops. If youre good at assembly, youll have no problem with the Highwood; if youre not a DIY person, youd be happier with the other two brands. model widest variety of colors and very easy to assemble. Probably the best overall, though the back doesnt recline like the Highwood. Trex brand: Very good overall, but probably 3rd out of the 3 to me Trex was easy to put together like the , but didnt have the same color variety. Also, the Trex I got had one screw poking through the slats that would poke a person sitting in the chair. Easy enough to fix (back the screw out a little) but for the price would have appreciated better quality control.
These are nice. Arrived well packed with all parts, good instructions, and 90 assembled. Tolerances are good and material is high quality. Comfortable, good color, functional design. This is a somewhat smaller, lighter and also semiportable verison of chairs sometimes used for busy recreation areas. Its a good mediumduty chair you can leave in place or fold if you need to. I wouldnt buy planning to fold and unfold one or more all the time or carry around in the carbest for leaving set up at camp, pool, porch: safe bet a set of these will last a long time and require almost zero maintenance. The price is in the ballpark. Easy enough for most sensible adults to avoid, but note that there is the potential for a pinch or smashed finger during assembly.
These were a big pain to put together (took over 4 hours) but the finished product feels sturdy, and the wood is a beautiful finish in our opinion! Ready for summer now.
I stored the two chairs for the winter months, and only assembled them today. One is fine. The other had a rather significant crack in the wood piece that runs from the front to the back, in the picture to the left, it is the piece that is at an angle running from the front to the ground in the back. I have added a nut and bolt to prevent the crack from spreading and also added a long screw to secure the cracked part to the main wood.
I bought 4 of these and love them. They are not super hard to put together but they do take a little patience. Also, one of the four chairs was constructed faulty so the back of it leans to one side but allinall, I am happy with them.
