Overall:
These chairs are solidly built, with very thick, solid wood pieces. They fit together well and snugly. The antique black means that some of the edges are distressed and dark reddish in color. This isnt a very noticeable feature, though, and looking at it from across the room, they look straight up black. Im a 200+ lbs man and I have no concerns about these stools handling my weight.
Assembly:
First, make sure you have a rubber mallet on hand, as youll need to pounding the pieces together, as they are a tight fit and most folks wont be able to push the pieces together. The screws provided are fine, but some of the pilot holes were pre-drilled too large, so the thin screws (look like longer drywall screws) cant grab the wood. I bought some slightly thicker steel screws of the same length and those worked better. (Dont get screws that are too thick, though, or you can crack the wood. I appreciated that each chair kit included its own wood glue. It took me about half an hour apiece to assemble these. The result is a very solid stool, though 2 of 3 had a slight wobble to them (legs not perfectly cut). Im hoping I can adjust that with some pads on the bottom.
Overall, great value for the price and solidly designed outside of the screws and slight un-evenness of the legs. These are easily 25% of the cost of others Ive seen and I cant imagine the more expensive ones are substantially different. I recommend them.
These are amazing stools! They are very comfortable and slide right under my countertop.
Great customer service, when I told them a piece broke they send the replacement right away!
These stools are great quality for a great price! Better than expected. These are solid hardwood...no laminates or particle board. They are nicely heavy...very sturdy. All wood grain and coloration was consistent on all pieces. They were packaged well for shipping. Each stool came flat packed in its own box. All three boxes were then put into another box for shipping. There was some standard shipping-damage to the outer box, but none to the inner boxes or pieces and parts.
Assembly was fairly easy. Took me about 20 minutes per stool. I would recommend having more wood glue on hand as the supplied bottle was not enough for my preference. You will also need a Phillips head screwdriver. And, though its not listed, Id recommend having a rubber mallet handy as well. The way the pieces fit together (pegs into holes) was fairly snug. Nothing that required me to shave the pegs or enlarge the holes...I just used a few firm taps with the rubber mallet to firmly seat each piece together.
All pieces were sized/cut properly. All pegs and holes lined up very well. as advertised, mine came with six cross-braces. The finished product looks proper and sturdy. I cant comment yet on how well they hold up, but I have a high level of confidence. With 3 boys between 5-11 years old in the house...theyre going to get a work-out. Ill try to remember to come back in six months or so and update my review. At this point, I would definitely buy these again and/or recommend anyone else considering them purchase them without reservation.
See my photos...they pretty much confirm everything in my review.

Stools very well made and not real difficult to assemble. The stools are darker than pictured. I used a different glue. Good buy!
