Had triple bypass surgery four months ago. I was anxious to get in and out of a bed. After doing extensive research online, I decided to purchase model 9188 because it laid flat and it had dual motors to work independently for the foot rest and the back rest. Having a lift chair meant that I did not have to pull or push with my arms to get up. Furthermore the chair was more comfortable than my bed for sleeping. After using it for three months, and having purchased a new mattress, I still prefer sleeping in my chair. There is also a little cushion that is perfect for my back. I still have not used the massage and heat system but probably will during the winter. This is the best purchase Ive made this year. I would recommend this chair for anyone who has had surgery and need help to get in and out of bed. With this chair, you will sleep soundly and will not need help from anyone to get up or down.
I am 5 feet 6 inches. My feet hang over edge of footrest area. It does NOT lay flat, footrest area is below seat area when fully reclined, thus feet are at downward angle. Description says leather. No, not leather. Just things for others to note when (or if) you buy.

My heart sank when I logged on to to find out that the return date had expired. Expecting to have a problem on my hands, I wrote an email to House, the manufacturer that evening. By early next morning, I received a reply stating that I would be receiving a call after 9 am my time. Being the skeptic that I am, I thought to myself that it would not happen. To my surprise, I did receive a phone call from Renee and she was very helpful in giving me instructions on what to look for. I mentioned that I was not home, but would get back if needed. The next day I received another follow-up call to make sure I had resolved the issue. How many manufacturers do that these days???
The problem was not even the chairs fault. A power cord had become loose at the power block and it took two seconds to plug back in. 5 Star service by Renee. A two minute follow-up phone call certainly made a huge impression. Other manufacturers should take note.

The heat setting on high is fine not hot...
The massage portion is ok if you need mid to upper back vibration. Its not at all like a shiatsu.
You can feel the buzzing and slight back vibration.
If you need lower back help this is not going to help at all.
You can use the chair without the heat or without the message those are on a separate remote that fits in a pocket on side of chair. The lift recline etc is on its own remote.
The chair is fine but over 55 your feet will not be on the foot rest but hang off. Id tell you its more vibration than message. There are different patterns but not a message.
This chair has enabled anyone to get up with no assistance. It has been a God send! The chair has style. It was very easy to put together. I would highly recommend the chair!
My sons got this chair for me. I was hesitant because of the price. But, I am glad they bought it. I love the fit. It like hugs me. The separate settings for the chair and the footrest is great. I have to keep my legs elevated, so this allows me to do that. The lift part, another great thing for me to have. It makes sitting and standing much easier, that I am getting spoiled with other chairs in the house. My favorite part is the massage and heat functions. I drift off to sleep with the massage feature. And when I am cold, the heat adds enough warmth to take away my chills. Assembly was easy. A real nice chair.
